New Year Resolutions to Make a Priority in 2020

Where has the time gone? 2019 flew by, and if we’re being honest, so did the whole last decade. We couldn’t be any more excited for the year ahead and we hope you’re just as excited as us. There’s always something great about a new year. It gives us a sense of rejuvenation, renewing, and a fresh start. A new year can mean a new sense of motivation. It can also mean recommitting to positive habits, so we’ve put together a list of home habit resolutions for the New Year that can help you to start putting your home at the top of your priority list.

1. Clear Out the Clutter

We all have a tendency to hang on to things a little too long. Maybe it’s our favorite sweater, or a child’s art project that’s been hidden in a box somewhere for the last twenty years. Regardless, it’s important to do a regular clean up and clear out each year. If you don’t use it, or don’t like it, it’s most likely time to say goodbye. And the best part about doing a cleanse, is that it allows you to give back to those in need through donations.

2. Put Safety First

It’s easy to overlook certain things when it comes to the safety of your home, but it needs to be something you put at the top of your to do list. Make sure you change out the batteries in all of your smoke detectors every six months. Also make sure to install carbon monoxide detectors on every floor with bedrooms. Check your fire extinguishers to make sure they’re still full and in good condition. Clean out your main dryer vent. And change out your air filter everything three months. It’s important not only for your safety, but also for your health.

3. Check for Leaks

Or have a professional check for you! Indoor leaks are usually a bit more noticeable than outdoor ones, so it’s important to do routine checks on your roof, gutters, windows, and door frames for anything that might signify possible leaks or damage.

4. Do Small Projects

You just never know when you may have to, or want to sell your home. So make sure to keep it looking fresh and updated! A small bit of paint can go a very long way, increasing or at least maintaining the value of your home.

5. Create a Weekly Chore List

It’s incredibly easy for your house to become dirty. There just never seems to be enough time in the day to get things done. But it’s important to make a priority because a clean house, means a happy home and a safe environment that is essential to our well being and health. Dust accumulated easily throughout our homes, so remember to vacuum and clean ceiling fans, vents, and baseboards on top of all the normal areas in your home. And don’t forget to use safe home products while you’re at it. Replace dryer sheets with wool dryer balls. Young Living has excellent natural cleaning products, as well as Thrive Market which is a wonderful way to eliminate toxic chemicals from your home.

It’s easy to put our homes on the back burner. Between stressful work schedules, children, pets, travel, and events, there are a million reasons things just don’t get done. Make 2020 different! Take time to set a plan, to make your home, health, and happiness a priority. It’s amazing what a difference it can make. Cheers!
