Best Stucco Paint for Homes

Tuesday, March 27th, 2018

When it’s time to choose the best stucco paint for your home, you may find that painting contractors offer varying opinions about the kind of paint that should be used. One contractor may recommend a durable, commercial-grade elastomeric paint (a thicker, rubbery material). Another painter may suggest 100% acrylic paint, and may disagree with the aesthetic choice of using a heavier material on residential exteriors. What to do? Here is some information to help you choose the right paint for your home’s stucco exterior.

Weather Resistant Stucco Paint

Consider your climate. Homes in hot, dry, sunny regions need stucco paint that is especially resistant to cracking and fading. Desert areas further require exceptionally dirt-resistant paints. Homes in humid, warm regions require mildew-resistant exterior coating materials.

The Longest Lasting Stucco Paint

The best stucco paint for your home’s exterior depends on the age and condition of the stucco, and whether or not it has been painted in the past. Ask your Georgia Coatings painting contractor for recommendations of paint materials.

New Stucco — Use a water-based sealant formulated for stucco applications. Then, apply two coats of water-based paint. Use a high-quality acrylic exterior house paint for optimum adhesion and color retention and for the longest lasting exterior protection.

Old Stucco — Wash faded surfaces and then apply two coats of exterior paint. Acrylic paint will provide satisfactory longevity of paint protection for old stucco exterior surfaces. A thicker elastomeric paint, or a blend of it, is recommended for painting older stucco. It provides maximum adhesion of paint material to deteriorating stucco and creates a more impenetrable surface. The elasticity of the heavier coating makes it ideal for filling the thin cracks and pinholes that are common in aging stucco.

Previously-Painted Stucco — Previously painted stucco must be cleaned to remove all loose paint, dirt, and dusty or powdery film (caused by minerals in the stucco leaching out to the surface). Power washing is recommended as the most efficient approach to surface preparation. Then, paint the stucco with either an elastomeric or acrylic paint.

Rhino Shield

We provide exterior paint that is guaranteed to last for 25 years or longer.  Rhino Shield is a high-grade paint that lasts longer, saving homeowners the cost of repainting every 3 – 10 years, as is normally necessary with less durable paints that fade or wear off of weathered exterior stucco surfaces.

  • A Multi-Layered Coating of Protection — Rhino Shield is a durable, low-maintenance, water-resistant acrylic-urethane coating.
  • Innovative Technology — The advanced Rhino Shield formula combines multiple strength-building resins, to form a tough, flexible membrane that bonds thoroughly to the substrate.
  • Multiple Additives — The thick Rhino Shield coating is fire resistant, and it blocks damaging UV rays that deteriorate exterior surfaces. This highly-defensive formula also includes algaecides, mildew inhibitors, and other Rhino Shield proprietary protective agents.

Faded Metal Roof? You Need SuperShield Roof Coating!

Monday, January 8th, 2018

Metal roofs last significantly longer than traditional shingle roofs, but unfortunately, their color can fade over time. If your metal roof needs an update, it’s time to think about SuperShield roof coating. Here’s what you need to know about this alternative to paint.

Compatible With Different Slopes

Generally, you need paint that works with different types of roof slopes, and SuperShield has different varieties to work with different types of roofs. In particular, if you need to cover a flat commercial roof, you can opt for the flat roof formula—that’s particularly useful if you’re trying to prevent pools of water. However, if you live in a residential home, you can opt for the sloped roof formula.

Wide Range of Colors

If you need a roof coating because your original color is fading, you will love the fact that SuperShield comes in a huge range of colors. You don’t have to choose from a list of colors. Instead, you can basically design your own unique color.

UV Reflective

You may have heard the advice that if you want your roof to absorb less heat that you need to opt for a light color of roofing. This is important because your roof is the closest part of your home to the sun, and it can absorb a lot of heat that can drive up your cooling costs. However, when you have a light colored roof, the sun’s rays are less likely to be absorbed and more likely to bounce away.

But, what if you don’t want a light colored roof? What if you want a more traditional dark colored roof? Well, SuperShield makes that possible. All colors of this innovative roof coating are designed to be UV-reflective. That lets you enjoy the best of both worlds.

Energy Efficient

When you add this type of roof coating to your roof, it boosts the energy efficiency of your roof. If you’re currently worried about losing cold or hot air through your roof, you may want to consider SuperShield. This comes from the same company that makes RhinoShield, a paint alternative which helps to protect your home from the elements while also boosting its efficiency.

Perfect for Metal

As you know, painting metal can be challenging. You need to use a special type of paint, or it won’t stick to the surface. SuperShield is perfectly designed to work with metal. Remember, it’s from the RhinoShield family, and RhinoShield works on all home materials including stucco, metal, wood, brick, and others.

Great Installation Process

When you opt to use SuperShield roof coating, you get to enjoy an expert installation process. Our professionals typically start with a consultation where we talk about your options and give you an estimate. Then, we can help with repairs or rust remediation as needed. Finally, we apply the roof coating to your metal roof, and you get to enjoy the fresh color and the boosted curb appeal of your home.

Stucco Siding

Wednesday, September 13th, 2017

There are several different types of sidings, each with their own benefits. Those sidings range anywhere from wood and metal, including steel and aluminum, to vinyl, fiber cement, and stucco.

Stucco, however, has a very distinct look, one that we absolutely love here at Rhino Shield! It has a smooth surface, allowing you to add coloring to your cement coats, as well as artistic designs, mosaics and murals into your stucco walls before the cement dries. Stucco is incredibly versatile and can be as traditional or creative as you are!

On top of that, it has several benefits. Made up of Portland cement, sand, lime, and water, stucco offers a solid, durable, and seamless exterior for your home. Stucco offers a natural resistance to fire, lasting durability, and is incredibly low maintenance, which for most homeowners is a necessity! And it only costs about $6-$9 per square foot to install. Stucco is an incredible insulator of both warm and cool air, and it won’t ever rot out.

Unfortunately though, stucco can sometimes develop several hairline cracks. Our APS (Adhesive Primer Sealer) works great to fill in minor cracks. Our products work great to keep water out, and our ceramic coatings help with insulation, and long lasting results that are sure to satisfy our customers.

If you find larger cracks, stucco patch fill ins may be required. If your stucco home is bowing away from the house, if it sounds hollow, or contains large cracks or holes, a professional fix may be required. We have two great partners:

Jeff at Advanced Stucco- (770) 592-1597

Randall- (770) 480-6173

And remember, Rhino Shield Georgia is here to help with all of your exterior housing needs no matter what type of siding you have! Call us today for a quote!

Finish up the process of protecting your home with our Durable Finish Coat, specially formulated with an acrylic urethane-elastromeric coating containing 3M microspheres as a primary solid. In simpler terms, DFC is a ceramic coating that enhances the beauty of the exterior of your home, all while protecting it from harmful outside elements. It seals cracks, expanding and contacting with temperature changes.  While the product’s main focus is on water proofing resisting mildew, algae, and fungi, it also adds insulation and sound-blocking features that you’ll greatly appreciate as well. Benefits of Red-Iron Metal Primer

Monday, April 28th, 2014
Rhino-Shield’s Red-Iron Metal Primer (RMP) is superior for treatment of outdoor – as well as indoor – ferrous metals. Those are the kind that break down and rust, such as iron, steel and aluminum. Unless a red iron metal primer is applied, no matter how thickly a ‘rustable’ surface is painted, the rust will continue to occur and eventually bleed through to your newly painted surface.

Our Red Iron Metal Primer prepares the surface of metals, encapsulating rusted areas to make them smoother for a final coat that is durable, less subject to cracking and peeling, and more beautiful. RMP metal primer is high in solids such as zinc and red iron oxide that cover and protect the metal from further rust and corrosion. It is used in situations where sandblasting or acid removal is not recommended for corrosion.

RMP is ideal for industrial buildings, steel roofs, metal window trim, plus wrought iron foyer railing and fencing that is prevalent at so many older southern homes.

Once the metal primer has been applied, we follow up with a color coat of thick and durable Rhino-Shield ceramic coating for high performance protection from further weathering. Rust and corrosion are held in check for decades to come.
