Winter Weather Preparations

Wednesday, November 16th, 2016

Winter is just around the corner (hard to believe, we know), but we were finally able to break out those warm winter clothes this past week as temperatures dropped into the low forties and high thirties.

It won’t long before we start seeing freezing temperatures, and that means only one thing for your home: trouble. Fear not though, Rhino Shield is here to help! Here are five easy steps you can take to prepare your home for the winter weather, protecting it from natural elements that can harm your most prized possession during the upcoming season.

  1. Seal Window Gaps- If the gaps between your window frames are larger than the width of a nickle, it’s a good idea to seal them with caulk. Silicone caulk works best, as it won’t shrink and can withstand the harsh elements of the outdoors.
  2. Turn Off Outside Water Sources- This will help prevent undrained water in pipes from freezing, bursting, and flooding your home. Water damage can be an absolute nightmare. Make sure to disconnect all water hoses and other exterior water sources, and drain them before it’s too late.
  3. Sweep Out Chimneys-Many times, during the summer months, insects, birds, and even squirrels manage to find a way into your chimney. It’s important to have it clean and swept to prevent fires as well as carbon monoxide poisoning.
  4. Inspect Downspouts, Gutters, and Roofs- Making sure your shingles are in good condition before the winter season can help prevent any leaks that may occur as moisture and frigid temperatures mix during the winter season.
  5. Check Foundation- It’s important to double check your foundation along with your windows, for any cracks or entry points that small animals can wiggle their way into, because if they’re big enough for animals to get in, they’re definitely big enough for water to seep through.

We know it’s easy to forget some of the things as the winter months roll in. Between work, getting the kids off to school, and Christmas shopping, it’s easy for your home to get overlooked. This year though, make sure your home is at the top of your priority list, because if you take care of it, it will take care of you!

Bob Vila Endorses Ceramic Coatings

Wednesday, November 9th, 2016

Many of us know Bob Vila from his PBS six season series “This Old House” which premiered in 1979 and won several Emmys over the years. Since then, Vila has become a staple in the home improvement and restoration industry. He’s written several books and starred in many other television shows. He also has his own self titled home improvement website that gives “tried, true, trustworthy home advice.”

Bob Vila recently endorsed ceramic coatings in his web article “Ceramic Coatings for Increased Insulation,” and we couldn’t be more thrilled. If you weren’t sure of Rhino Shield before, you will be now!

Ceramic coatings have been around for years and have several advantages over regular paints and coatings. They help reduce thermal conductivity by using ceramic micro-spheres that offer lower conductivity than the traditional paint solids. This makes them very effective in preventing unnecessary heat loss or heat gain. As a result, insulation increases and power bills decrease. And who doesn’t like saving money?!

At Rhino Shield, we provide our customers with several different coating options including our different Rhino Shield Roof Coatings. These multi-layer, rubber-like coatings add extra layers of water sealant, helping keep roofs cooler and extending their lives by several years. Ceramic roof coatings often pay for themselves, as they are thousands of dollars cheaper than replacing a roof.

This beautiful tropical green roof is coated with Rhino Shield’s Supershield Roof Coating. Our Supershield Roof Coating is specifically designed for metal roofs in need of a fresh look and some extra protection, and is offered in a sloped roof formula perfect for residential buildings, a flat roof formula for commercial buildings, and a ponding water formula for roofs in the most challenging of situations.

Our Rhino Shield Roof Coatings help increase energy savings, which is why we were awarded the US Department of Energy’s Energy Star Rating for TWO of our fabulous roof coatings! We pride ourselves on our incredible, long lasting products here at Rhino Shield. If you’re roof is in need of something to help spruce it up or protect it from natural outdoor elements, give us a call! And head over to Bob Vila’s website for more information on ceramic coatings and all things home improvement, because both Bob and Rhino Shield love your home just as much as you do!

Coated Brick: The Next Big Thing

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016

With the rise in popularity of shows like HGTV’s Fixer Upper and Flip Or Flop, we’ve seen a spike in the number of clients painting or coating their home’s brick exterior. And Rhino Shield is loving this new trend just as much as our clients are.

This new craze brings a hint of modern flare to any type of home, and we are swooning at the finished product. So are two of our most recent clients who gave Rhino Shield rave reviews saying, “This crew was incredible. They worked so hard every day to transform this home- we are extremely pleased with their work and will readily promote Rhino Shield and the entire process.”

image11 image21

Some of the more popular colors include varying shades of grey, cream, and white (like our most recent client’s chose). The transformation is stunning! Brick coatings turn typical brick houses into  stunningly elegant, and unique homes. The finished products are incredible but it’s no easy feat to transform these brick homes.

Brick is unique and special steps must be taken to ensure homes are fully protected. Brick, much like human skin, contains pores. Some brick is more porous than others. If a home has very porous brick, Rhino Shield must first apply a block filler to help fill in these pours for a smoother texture. After the brick is coated, it must be sprayed and back rolled to ensure any cracks and crevices are completely filled in. This gives homes the opportunity to take full advantage of the Rhino Shield product.

Rhino Shield is classified as a Low E Coating, helping lower the cost of energy bills, as well as protecting your home from outside elements for the next twenty five years. If you’re interested in coating your brick home with our product, give us a call. We are incredibly excited about this new craze, and can’t wait to hear from you soon!

Fall Is In Full Swing…Sort Of.

Thursday, October 27th, 2016

It’s finally starting to feel like fall in Georgia, and we couldn’t be happier! The summer heat has taken a tole on us as well as our clients, so we are beyond excited for lower temperatures and crisper air. Trees have started to change and the familiar smell of bonfires is in the air. Hersey’s chocolate bars are melting between  marshmallows and graham crackers, pumpkins are being picked from local pumpkin patches, and kids are getting lost in corn mazes across the country.

In just a few short days we’ll all have the neighborhood children ringing our doorbells for candy on the spookiest day of the year. Before we know it, we’ll be sitting around the dining room table for Thanksgiving dinner. Soon after that the streets will be lined with the twinkling lights of Christmas, and parents will be out searching for the biggest and best Barbie Doll or Nerf Gun toy out this year.  But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

For now, we’ll focus on fall and all of our amazing clients who have brought the spirit of fall straight to the exterior of their homes. When we think of fall, we think of dark, natural, rich tones such as brown, beige, rust, forest green, and mustard. It turns out, so do our clients! Below are just a few incredible examples.

It’s also the perfect time to protect your home’s exterior against all the natural elements that eat away at your home during the winter season. Don’t look any further. Rhino Shield is here to help! Just give us a call and let us know what we can do for you! We may even include a slice of pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole in the price!

Unique Color Schemes

Thursday, October 6th, 2016

There are 7.5 billion people in the world, and no two people are exactly the alike. We all have different personalities and different interests. Our favorite foods differ, favorite music, favorite television shows, and even favorite colors. We all have unique styles, especially when it comes to our homes.

In certain neighborhoods the exterior of the homes tend to resemble one another. They share similar features, and similar hues. Many times, homes in these types of neighborhoods, often those with HOA (Home Owner Associations), have certain rules and regulations residents must abide by. Where we see the real uniqueness in those types of neighborhoods is in the interior of the homes.

But luckily, in several neighborhoods, as well as free standing homes on extensive amounts of land, homeowners have to ability to show off their unique style even on their home’s exterior. We’ve had two creative home owners who have gone off the beaten path when it comes to colors, and the results are impressive. Both are incredibly happy with how things turned out, and we couldn’t be more excited for them!

As you can see, our first house was rather bland and ultimately quite standard, but the owners spruced it up with a splash of blue that has them swooning.

The owners were so thrilled, they even called in to their local radio station to speak to Kimmer about the Rhino Shield product. Who would have known a little blue trim could go a long way!

Our second client’s home went from dark and drab to bright and bold. This unique yellow is not one you often see, but boy does make a statement!

From popular events like gymnastics, swimming, and volleyball to more obscure events like field hockey, fencing, and trampoline, we were there watching and supporting our American Athletes. Curb Appeal & Landscaping Make all the Difference

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

By now, most of us know that a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for a home. We do it nearly every day here at Rhino Shield. But what makes those heads turn, you ask? Simple, it’s curb appeal and beautiful landscaping. If you’ve caught even a small glimpse of HGTV, you know exactly what we’re talking about. You should also know, we envy those homes just as much as you do. They’re gorgeous! Who could blame us?

Most of the homes you see on television are brand new and sport fresh, bright, and clean exteriors. A fresh coat of paint can go a long way. But it’s the home’s lines, landscape, and lovely curb appeal that really makes it stand out.

rhino7

Just look at this basic ranch style home. There’s really not a lot going on. The grass is brown, and the area lacks even the slightest bit of landscaping. You see very few, if any flowers or bushes. The handful that do exist are pushed up against the exterior of the home, breaking every rule of maintenance, as well as our hearts. These overgrown bushes are neglected, dead, and frankly pretty atrocious. So are all the weeds in the front yard. Pine straw is nonexistent, and so is any bit of bite in this property. Most people would drive past this house in a heartbeat. It sparked someone’s interest though, and that someone had an incredible vision.

rhino8

We were thrilled to work on this house, and even more excited to see the finished project! The green exterior coating brings an earthy, fresh feel to this home, and the splash of color on the front door brightens it up, drawing outsiders in! The beautiful pathway leads to a unique set of stairs, a cute front porch, and an even cuter pergola adding a hint of modern flare that younger, first time home buyers are looking for.  Fresh flowers, bushes, and plants make this home look well maintained, and stunningly beautiful. What a transformation!

Now we know what you’re thinking…that looks like a lot of work! And you may be right. The owners of this home spent a lot of time and effort sprucing up the place. So if you think this project is a bit overwhelming, that’s okay. There’s plenty of other options that require a lot less effort than this stunner.

rhino10

Just take a look at this log cabin! We were in awe of this recently finished project, and amazed by it’s curb appeal. It’s a real head turner. The simplicity of the hanging plants and well maintained bushes make this home a real rustic gem. Because sometimes, less is more!

Fall is just around the corner, which means cooler temperatures are on their way! Now is the time to get outside, water your lawn, your flowers, and any other plants before winter rolls around. Also, make sure to trim your hedges, pick some weeds, and maintain the outside of your home by keeping shrubbery away from any exterior siding. It may seem time consuming and expensive, but you’d be surprise at what simple maintenance, or even what a few simple hanging, or potted plants can do for your home.

But remember, it all starts with a fresh coat of paint, and that’s what Rhino Shield is here for!

Maintaining Rhino Shield

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016

Are you the proud owner of a Rhino Shield home? If so, you are one smart cookie. Our exterior coating is guaranteed to last for twenty five years, and that means one less worry for you for a minimum of two decades. So let that weight be lifted off your shoulders, and breathe. With some simple maintenance tasks, your home will look good and stay looking good for years to come.

Rhino Shield is designed to resist mold and mildew, however a periodic bath is recommended for double the protection against harmful elements. This will help keep your home looking fresh, bright and new year after year after year. Occasionally checking your home’s horizontal surfaces such as handrails and windowsills helps to avoid any staining caused by harmful elements left on those surfaces for an extended period of time. Tsp soap works especially well to remove dirt, springtime pollen, and other harmful elements in the air that tend to settle on horizontal surfaces. Applying soap, and rinsing with a strong nozzle or garden hose is all that is needed to remove surface debris on the exterior of your home. If you’re busy running around like the rest of us, Rhino Shield will be happy to provide this service for you. Just give us a call!

tsp

There are several other small maintenance tasks that you can perform to ensure your Rhino Shield coating is performing to the best of its ability. Periodically checking for openings in the caulk joints and around windows, doors, trim, and siding will help catch any problem before they start. It’s also important to prevent any sort of ponding of water around door frames or siding located in low areas. Keeping both your roof and gutter areas in working order is essential in maintaining your homes exterior appearance and functionality. This holds true to your shrubs, trees, and plants as well. Make sure landscaping is a minimum of one foot away from the siding and trim of your home at all times. Making sure your siding and trim are at least 6-8 inches from the ground is also important. If it’s below those 6 inches, it allows easy access for insects and water to enter your home from underneath. And as silly as it may sound, Mr. Clean cleaning squares are a perfect solution to clean up any clay stains that may have made their way to areas on your home.

50790981_Alt01

These easy steps can help maintain your homes beauty for an extended amount of time. In rare cases though, small areas on the surface can open up upon movement of your home. This usually happens during the change of seasons. You may notice areas where there are separations in the caulk or sealant on your home’s exterior. If this happens, call Rhino Shield immediately for a free home inspection. There is usually an easy solution to the problem, and can be easily fixed during the inspection process.

We are here to help, and we want you to be satisfied with our product. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to give us a call, and we will gladly come out and provide you with a free home inspection. We want Rhino Shield to give you the performance you expect, because after all, our quality is what we pride ourselves on!
