Chattanooga Sidings and the Rhino Shield Difference

Wednesday, November 15th, 2017

Chattanooga, the fourth largest city in Tennessee, is known as the Scenic City. With beautiful mountain views, and picturesque scenery, it’s popular for its outdoor life and booming downtown area. It’s thriving, and people all across the United States are beginning to call the gorgeous city of Chattanooga home.

Chattanooga is one of our favorite cities here at Rhino Shield, and we’re pros when it comes to all the popular sidings within the region. This includes masonite siding, stucco, brick and hardie board.

Hardie board has been around since we can remember, but its popularity comes and goes. Typically known for its low maintenance and long lasting durability, it can be found in just about any neighborhood in the Chattanooga area, including the one pictured below. This home’s siding was made up of every popular siding in the area including wood, lead paint, masonite, and hardie plank!

Most hardie board siding comes with a 50-year limited warranty. It is completely rot, fire, storm, and insect resistant. It even holds up well against the salt from the ocean. Color options are unlimited, so homeowners are able to be as traditional or as original as they please. If you’re not a fan of hardie board though, and prefer a different look, you still have several options.

Also popular within this area, are brick and stucco. Personally, we love the new trend of coating brick! You can’t go wrong with white. Even grey coatings on brick look fresh and up to date. Brick is incredibly low maintenance. It’s also weather resistant. There is no need to paint or perform the routine maintenance that is required by other sidings such as wood or vinyl.

As for stucco, it is an incredible insulator for both warm and cool air. It’s energy efficient and will save you boatloads on your monthly electric bill. Not to mention, its smooth, traditional look is second to none. Creativity is endless with stucco siding, and its innovation can’t be beat.

Finally, masonite siding, a lesser known but highly popular siding within the Chattanooga area, was first introduced for a low maintenance, low cost alternative to real wood siding. However, it’s durability fell short and it can no longer be found on the market. Here at Rhino Shield though, we’re willing to take on even the most difficult projects (for the most part), and that includes masonite!

So if you’re in the Chattanooga area and have any of the several sidings listed above on your home, or even ones that are not, give us a call. We’ll be happy to give you a quote for our long lasting coating that will give your home an amazing exterior for the next twenty five years or more!

Say Goodbye to Pollen

Wednesday, May 31st, 2017

Pollen season has finally come to an end and if you’re anything like us, we’re more than pleased to say goodbye to runny noses, sore throats, and itchy eyes. We can even take our car to get washed without worrying weather or not it will turn yellow again the next day!

What many of us fail to realize though, is that it’s not just people that are affected by pollen, it’s our homes too! Now is the perfect time to get out there and power wash your home. Powering washing should be done once a year to keep your home looking fresh and clean.

Power washing the surface of your home helps free it of dirt, mold, and mildew. It also helps get rid of tannin stains caused by surrounding trees, leaves, and sticks, as well as rubber marks from tires, oil, and irrigation rust. All these things can cause serious health risks for you and your family, so a yearly cleaning benefits you as much as it does your home.

Power washing helps maintain the value of your home, and in some cases can even increase the value of your property. It’s the easiest and most affordable way to maintain your home’s value for future sales. If you’re short on time, like so many of us are these days, check out the pressure washing services near you. Georgia has a ton of options including:

JPS Handyman

Oh Improvements & Painting

DA Kirkland Contracting

Dillard Construction

Proview Window Cleaning Services

Foreman Roofing and Repairs

M&C Pressure Washing

Russel Property Services

If you’re an existing customer, contact Rhino Shield for a quote on power washing and any questions you may have about cleaning the exterior of your home! We’ll be happy to help.

Bob Vila Endorses Ceramic Coatings

Wednesday, November 9th, 2016

Many of us know Bob Vila from his PBS six season series “This Old House” which premiered in 1979 and won several Emmys over the years. Since then, Vila has become a staple in the home improvement and restoration industry. He’s written several books and starred in many other television shows. He also has his own self titled home improvement website that gives “tried, true, trustworthy home advice.”

Bob Vila recently endorsed ceramic coatings in his web article “Ceramic Coatings for Increased Insulation,” and we couldn’t be more thrilled. If you weren’t sure of Rhino Shield before, you will be now!

Ceramic coatings have been around for years and have several advantages over regular paints and coatings. They help reduce thermal conductivity by using ceramic micro-spheres that offer lower conductivity than the traditional paint solids. This makes them very effective in preventing unnecessary heat loss or heat gain. As a result, insulation increases and power bills decrease. And who doesn’t like saving money?!

At Rhino Shield, we provide our customers with several different coating options including our different Rhino Shield Roof Coatings. These multi-layer, rubber-like coatings add extra layers of water sealant, helping keep roofs cooler and extending their lives by several years. Ceramic roof coatings often pay for themselves, as they are thousands of dollars cheaper than replacing a roof.

This beautiful tropical green roof is coated with Rhino Shield’s Supershield Roof Coating. Our Supershield Roof Coating is specifically designed for metal roofs in need of a fresh look and some extra protection, and is offered in a sloped roof formula perfect for residential buildings, a flat roof formula for commercial buildings, and a ponding water formula for roofs in the most challenging of situations.

Our Rhino Shield Roof Coatings help increase energy savings, which is why we were awarded the US Department of Energy’s Energy Star Rating for TWO of our fabulous roof coatings! We pride ourselves on our incredible, long lasting products here at Rhino Shield. If you’re roof is in need of something to help spruce it up or protect it from natural outdoor elements, give us a call! And head over to Bob Vila’s website for more information on ceramic coatings and all things home improvement, because both Bob and Rhino Shield love your home just as much as you do!

Unique Color Schemes

Thursday, October 6th, 2016

There are 7.5 billion people in the world, and no two people are exactly the alike. We all have different personalities and different interests. Our favorite foods differ, favorite music, favorite television shows, and even favorite colors. We all have unique styles, especially when it comes to our homes.

In certain neighborhoods the exterior of the homes tend to resemble one another. They share similar features, and similar hues. Many times, homes in these types of neighborhoods, often those with HOA (Home Owner Associations), have certain rules and regulations residents must abide by. Where we see the real uniqueness in those types of neighborhoods is in the interior of the homes.

But luckily, in several neighborhoods, as well as free standing homes on extensive amounts of land, homeowners have to ability to show off their unique style even on their home’s exterior. We’ve had two creative home owners who have gone off the beaten path when it comes to colors, and the results are impressive. Both are incredibly happy with how things turned out, and we couldn’t be more excited for them!

As you can see, our first house was rather bland and ultimately quite standard, but the owners spruced it up with a splash of blue that has them swooning.

The owners were so thrilled, they even called in to their local radio station to speak to Kimmer about the Rhino Shield product. Who would have known a little blue trim could go a long way!

Our second client’s home went from dark and drab to bright and bold. This unique yellow is not one you often see, but boy does make a statement!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Wednesday, May 25th, 2016

They say, “April showers bring May flowers,” but what they fail to mention are the extensive amount of wood repairs that come along with it. Luckily, Rhino Shield is here to help with two of our amazing products that withstand both the test of time and weather. Our Adhesive Primer Sealer and Durable Finish Coat make for the perfect pair in protecting wood and other exterior surfaces which tend to get damaged with heavy rain and moisture.

Our Adhesive Primer Sealer is the perfect product to protect your home’s exterior, and it works wonders on several different exterior surfaces including wood, plywood, stucco, cement, block, brick metal, clay, and stone. You can use it on just about any surface. The list goes on and on! APS can even be pushed into porous surfaces to seal both small cracks and voids on the exterior of your home or business. Made with a high resin formula, APS goes on white, and drys a tacky transparent membrane, protecting surfaces from any future mold or mildew growth that comes along with frequent spring and summer showers. If you’re living in the south, especially the Metro-Atlanta area, we know summer storms have become a regular occurrence for you. Protecting your home from those storms is at the top of our to do list. Is it at the top of yours? If it is, this is the perfect product to start with!

Finish up the process of protecting your home with our Durable Finish Coat, specially formulated with an acrylic urethane-elastromeric coating containing 3M microspheres as a primary solid. In simpler terms, DFC is a ceramic coating that enhances the beauty of the exterior of your home, all while protecting it from harmful outside elements. It seals cracks, expanding and contacting with temperature changes.  While the product’s main focus is on water proofing resisting mildew, algae, and fungi, it also adds insulation and sound-blocking features that you’ll greatly appreciate as well. Because of its superior dirt pick-up resistance, DFC is sure to look great for years to come, with little maintenance for you! More protecting, and less stressing. That’s the perfect combination for any home owner out there!

The same holds true for the property managers of these wood condos in Athens, Georgia. These beautiful condos experienced severe wood damage after several years of spring and summer showers.

We came to the rescue and turned the rotting exterior into something amazing! They look brand new, and have a woodsy, outdoorsy feel that we know the residents love. They look great, and will stay looking this wonderful for years to come.

We know how easy it can be to put off work on your home, but our products make it easy and painless for our customers to maintain the beauty of their home. And it’s long lasting which is even better! For more information on our Adhesive Primer Sealer and Durable Finish Coat, visit our website, or contact us at 1-850-424-6805. We promise that next year the only thing those April showers will bring, are beautiful May flowers!

Home Prep

Friday, April 8th, 2016

There’s a lot that goes into painting and coating the exterior of a home, and we take every measure possible to have it look the best it can by the end of the process. A fresh coat of paint in conjunction with the protection of the landscape around your home, will make for a finished product that has stellar curb appeal!

Prior to starting a project, we provide our customers with a pamphlet on how to prep their home or business for our team, and below are some of the steps we find most important in the process.

Most importantly, make sure all shrubbery has been trimmed back 1-2 feet from your house. We don’t want to accidentally coat your bushes, turning them a different color for the next twenty five years. You may not like that too much.

If you have any potted plants, it’s important to remove those from your porch, or deck as well. This includes hanging plants! We don’t want overspray ruining your pretty flowers.

Anything on the exterior walls should be removed, along with breakable, fragile, or precious items on the interior walls of your home. This is crucial when doing wood repairs.

Screens should be unlatched for pressure washing. Also, we ask that towels be laid down around doors and windows, weather they leak or not. It’s a precautionary step, and we’d rather be safe than sorry!

We may at some point need the windows to be unlocked. We will coordinate this with you during the process.

We will remove any downspouts to protect from overspray as well, unless they are on brick.

We also remove shutters, unless your house is brick. We will never remove shutter caps or paint them. Those will be left untouched.

Lastly, it is always important that you allow us access to outside electricity and water.

We know that there is a lot that goes into painting a home, and we understand that this can seem a little overwhelming at times, but we are here to answer any questions you have, and guide you through the process. Preparation is essential in bringing you the end product you envisioned, and we promise that the finished product will be worth it!
