Fall Is In Full Swing…Sort Of.

Thursday, October 27th, 2016

It’s finally starting to feel like fall in Georgia, and we couldn’t be happier! The summer heat has taken a tole on us as well as our clients, so we are beyond excited for lower temperatures and crisper air. Trees have started to change and the familiar smell of bonfires is in the air. Hersey’s chocolate bars are melting between  marshmallows and graham crackers, pumpkins are being picked from local pumpkin patches, and kids are getting lost in corn mazes across the country.

In just a few short days we’ll all have the neighborhood children ringing our doorbells for candy on the spookiest day of the year. Before we know it, we’ll be sitting around the dining room table for Thanksgiving dinner. Soon after that the streets will be lined with the twinkling lights of Christmas, and parents will be out searching for the biggest and best Barbie Doll or Nerf Gun toy out this year.  But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

For now, we’ll focus on fall and all of our amazing clients who have brought the spirit of fall straight to the exterior of their homes. When we think of fall, we think of dark, natural, rich tones such as brown, beige, rust, forest green, and mustard. It turns out, so do our clients! Below are just a few incredible examples.

It’s also the perfect time to protect your home’s exterior against all the natural elements that eat away at your home during the winter season. Don’t look any further. Rhino Shield is here to help! Just give us a call and let us know what we can do for you! We may even include a slice of pumpkin pie or sweet potato casserole in the price!

Unique Color Schemes

Thursday, October 6th, 2016

There are 7.5 billion people in the world, and no two people are exactly the alike. We all have different personalities and different interests. Our favorite foods differ, favorite music, favorite television shows, and even favorite colors. We all have unique styles, especially when it comes to our homes.

In certain neighborhoods the exterior of the homes tend to resemble one another. They share similar features, and similar hues. Many times, homes in these types of neighborhoods, often those with HOA (Home Owner Associations), have certain rules and regulations residents must abide by. Where we see the real uniqueness in those types of neighborhoods is in the interior of the homes.

But luckily, in several neighborhoods, as well as free standing homes on extensive amounts of land, homeowners have to ability to show off their unique style even on their home’s exterior. We’ve had two creative home owners who have gone off the beaten path when it comes to colors, and the results are impressive. Both are incredibly happy with how things turned out, and we couldn’t be more excited for them!

As you can see, our first house was rather bland and ultimately quite standard, but the owners spruced it up with a splash of blue that has them swooning.

The owners were so thrilled, they even called in to their local radio station to speak to Kimmer about the Rhino Shield product. Who would have known a little blue trim could go a long way!

Our second client’s home went from dark and drab to bright and bold. This unique yellow is not one you often see, but boy does make a statement!

HOA and Zoning Laws Limit Exterior Siding Paint Palettes

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

swatch_bookletWhen it’s time to repaint your home’s exterior siding, Rhino Shield has an amazing 1500 colors to choose from! However, if you live in a covenanted community with a home owners association — or if you live within a city — there may be limitations to your imagination.

The president of a local HOA (name withheld by request) states, “We date back to 1978. Because our covenants and by-laws are so old, we also use the city’s codes and ordinances to govern property management.”

When a community member is ready to update his house’s exterior siding paint, this HOA president explains the procedure: ” We have an online application form, and we have an architectural committee that reviews the request. We require that they paint a three-foot square section on the side of their home, along with a sample of trim work, so we can approve or deny the color.”

Normally, neighbors are level-headed about their choices. However, the HOA president related one incident where the exterior paint color choice was so wrong that neighbors were calling in to cast their own votes. The committee handled the situation diplomatically by sending a representative to meet with the home owner to choose some similar but ‘toned-down’ options.

A home owner may not start painting until a letter of approval from the HOA has been received. Failure to follow HOA guidelines can result in fines and more.

The City of Snellville in Gwinnett County, for example, publishes a list of colors that are not required but are meant to be used as a guide to creating a compatible community. Their palette consists of muted ‘woodsy’ colors such as Sage, Appalachian Gray, Tavern Brown, Tobacco, Sandalwood, Biscuit and Blue Slate.

Rhino Shield ceramic coating will last for 25 years or more, so be sure to check with your HOA and city before committing to the colors!

Which Exterior Paint Colors Are Right For You?

With some 1500 shades of exterior paint to choose from, it may be a delightful challenge to plan your Rhino Shield makeover. Do you want your home to stand out as a masterpiece, blend peacfully into its surroundings, or perhaps match its original tones if it is a heritage home? Not to worry. We have specialists who can help.

Georgia Coatings Owner Roxanne Ecklund explains:

“When there is a problem with color choices, they [clients] can get assistance from a decorator, or I can assist in guiding them in how to look at colors. But hiring a decorator will give them guidance as well.

“There are many factors to work with and look at, from roof color to trees around the house that will play on color. If they have brick, they may want to play off the color of the mortar in the brick. That is usually a good starting point.

“If they have stone, then picking a color in the stone they would like to accent, whether it be a gray color on a redddish brown color —  choosing one color to pull out is a good place to start.

“Getting color samples from any paint store is acceptable. We can match any color to about 95%.  All exterior paint stores use different colorants and that will affect how our color comes out as well.”

Once you choose your main exterior paint, it’s time to create a color scheme using accent colors for doors, trim and shutters.

The most important rule here is to stay within a palette of either cool tones or warm tones. Cool tones have a blue or steel gray base color; warm tones have a yellowish base. That doesn’t mean, for example, that if you pick warm tones, you are limited to red/brown/orange/yellow. Look very closely at blues, greens and whites. You’ll see that some are kind of yellowish. They will look fine in combination with the above.

Beautify For Spring With Rhino Shield Colors

Friday, May 1st, 2015

swatch_booklet Homeowners are outdoors in full force, cleaning up yards and landscaping for Spring. Now is the best time to spruce up your home’s exterior coating as well with an all new color scheme. Rhino Shield ceramic paint coating comes in an enormous assortment of 1,500 beautiful colors, from soft to bold to adventurous. What’s more, Georgia Coatings can match any color swatch from other paint companies such as Sherwin Williams and Behr.

Typically, residential home paint uses a palette of at least three colors that complement each other: a main one for siding, a deeper ‘signature’ color for doors and/or shutters, plus a quieter, more neutral shade for trim and gutters. If you are unsure what to choose, check out some of the combinations we feature on our website or have one of our Georgia Coatings professionals help out.

Start with the neighborhood. Note what residential home paint combinations your neighbors use. It is important to check your community covenant to see if there are limits to your choices.

Also, look at the locale. Soft greens and browns blend in nicely with the mountainous scenery near our Asheville, North Carolina or Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee offices. Light, cool pastels and white residential home paint do better reflect the summer heat in coastal regions near our Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head, South Carolina offices. Light colors there help to keep cooling bills lower, because dark colors absorb more wavelengths of light (thus heat), while light colors reflect the light.

Red brick commonly used in Atlanta and all over Georgia presents a special challenge that can be handled in one of three ways:
1) Tone down the red with soft whites and gray-toned neutrals;
2) Paint over it. Rhino Shield ceramic paint coating covers brick surfaces like a champ;
3) Go dramatic with black and white or other strong colors to match the intensity of the red brick.

If your objective is to sell the home, choose light neutrals which make a home appear larger and more cheery. Our Rhino Shield ceramic paint coating comes with a 25 year transferable warranty, which can also be a great selling point.

You can count on Georgia Coatings professionals to do an efficient and beautiful job. We always re-confirm the colors before applying. Give us a call. We’d be happy to tell you more.

It’s Called Curb Appeal

Friday, September 19th, 2014
You never get a second chance to make a great first impression. Neighbors, visitors, potential buyers all want to see your home looking beautiful from the outside when they drive up. This is what influences their opinions about you, about the neighborhood and about the livability your home inside.

Nothing spruces up a house faster than a new coat of paint. You can keep the exterior of your home looking great for years to come with Rhino Shield elastomeric ceramic coating.

Our two step coating process starts with an elastomeric primer that covers cracks to create a pliable seal around the exterior of your home. It keeps out leaks and vapors. The following ceramic coating in your choice of 1,500 colors contains tiny ceramic microspheres that bind together tightly to protect your home from the worst the weather has to throw at it.

Need some inspiration? TV’s DIY show recommends picking out a bold color for the front door to make your home distinctive. HGTV suggests taming the landscape so your home can be seen better from the road. Better Homes and Gardens suggests installing outdoor lighting so the beauty of your home can be seen at night as well. And another tactic that many decorators use is the three-color scheme: choose a soft shade for the walls, plus a complementary color in a deeper shade for trim or the door, and a bold color for shutters.

Have one of our seasoned experts from Georgia Coatings come to your home for a free estimate to protect your home’s exterior and give it great curb appeal with Rhino Shield elastomeric ceramic coating. He can help you choose a color scheme from our selection of 1,500 blends. Call us today at 678-205-4500.

Signs of Spring – Exterior Ceramic Coating in 1500 Colors

Monday, March 10th, 2014
It’s Springtime. Time to rejuvenate your home. Choose from Rhino Shield’s beautiful palette of 1,500 colors of exterior ceramic coating and make your home a work of art.

According to Better Homes and Gardens, the three-color scheme for exterior home painting is most popular. Choose a main wall color plus a  decorative accent color for ‘pop’ that is usually applied to shutters and/or front door, as well as a neutral ‘blend -into -the-background’ color for gutters and trim. Here, we see a four-color plan of two neutrals and one pop color used in a unique way as roof edging. (Photo courtesy of Better Homes And Gardens)

Why use ceramic coating instead of regular paint? How long do you want your exterior coating to last? How long do you want the colors to look fresh? How about heat reflectivity, vapor barrier, acoustic insulation, fire resistance, lower energy bills and easy clean-up?

Rhino Shield exterior ceramic coating is an acrylic waterborne wall covering composed of tiny round ceramic microspheres that are thicker and more durable than latex paint.

All these tiny beads slip into place together more closely to provide better adhesion and a much tighter bond against the elements. Your home or commercial property stays beautiful much longer, energy bills are reduced, and your property value increases.

And don’t forget, you get a 25 year transferable warranty. You’ll never paint again!
