Green Features and Product Testing

Thanks for printing!  Don't forget to come back to Rhino Shield of Georgia for fresh articles!

Go Green with Rhino Shield

Rhino Shield has always been a green, eco-friendly product. From the beginning, our ceramic coating was designed to be non-toxic, low odor, and safe for skin contact. There are other reasons why Rhino Shield is an eco-friendly 'green' product. Our ceramic topcoat is a low-e thermal barrier that may reduce your energy consumption, and, because of our mil thickness, Rhino Shield can be used to encapsulate lead paint.

Go Green

Green Features

  • Low VOC (well less than 100 grams per liter)
  • Non-toxic
  • Low odor (no inhalation hazard)
  • Safe for skin contact (no protective clothing required)
  • Approved for solid waste landfill disposal
  • Nonflammable
  • Can help Resist the growth of mold and mildew
  • Rhino Shield is a low-e product that reduces thermal conductivity to insulate buildings better.
  • Member of the Florida Green Building Coalition

Finally, Rhino Shield simply lasts much longer than most traditional paint. Any product that extends the life cycle (by 50% or more) beyond the industry average is considered 'green'. The reason is, all products need raw materials and energy for manufacturing, and then more energy and pollution to transport. Long lasting products mean less re-manufacturing and less transportation over time. Go with Rhino Shield Ceramic Coating and  NEVER PAINT AGAIN.

Product testing and Lead Safe Firm

At Rhino Shield, designing and testing is an ongoing process. We are very proud of our testing results, and we believe the tests support our position as the ceramic coating leaders. Any home prior to 1978 may possibly have Lead on the house.  We will test for lead to make sure and we do this following EPA guidelines.  Rhino Shield dealer Georgia Coatings has passed all requirements to become certified to test and remove lead based paint from your home.  Many tradiotonal painters do not take care of removing lead the way they should.  If you have a home built prior to 1978 and a painter is not testing, you should be alarmed.  It does cost more to remove and prep the home properly.  Again you do it once and you don't have to worry about it in the future.  We will work with your budget to make your home Lead safe.

BASF Testing

BASFIndependent testing confirms our performance claims, and offers assurance to our customers that Rhino Shield will perform on their homes.  BASF is one of the largest and most respected chemical companies in the world.  They are recognized by the slogan “We don’t make the product, we make product better.” BASF has performed several rounds of testing on Rhino Shield.  As you can see, Rhino Shield excels at flexibility, tear resistance, tensile strength, breathability, and viscosity. Additionally, BASF performed an accelerated aging test.  Rhino Shield passed the test, showing no visible signs of aging, and was still an elastomeric product.  Read the report on Rhino Shield Coatings from BASF.

Salt Tolerance For Coastal Areas

SaltRhino Shield has been tested to be a highly salt tolerant coating, and is tested for salt water regions. This is vital in coastal areas.  As the testing shows, we are in the top category of salt tolerance and even outperformed the industry's other standard, Rustoleum.  Click here to read the project report on Rhino Shield Coatings.

Ceramic Microspheres

The solid materials used in Rhino-Shield, including ceramic spheres, offer lower thermo-conductivity than the fillers used in traditional paint (CaCo3).

Fire & Smoke Rating

Fire and SmokeRhino-Shield has a class A fire and smoke rating. In some areas of the country prone to wildfires, buildings with a class A fire rating may qualify for a discount on their homeowners insurance.  Read the report on the Rhino Shield Durable Finish Coat.

R-Equivlency test

The test was preformed by R. Hinojosa, P.E. on Ocotober 20, 2010 to determin a U-value calcualtion based on an R-Equivalent value for the Rhino Shield Durable Finish Coat.  Based on his testing it equated out to 6.89

R • Value Equivalent     Ft2 • °F • h    6.89        PE no 64095

If you would like to see the full test please request and we will provide for you.
